The EDGE/100 Fellows college tour and Workshop II at University of Texas Arlington was a great success! Once we arrived, our large group of enthusiastic high school juniors and seniors broke of into smaller groups by college major (interest) and began their tour. Our UTA guides were phenomenal and gave an eye opening presentation of the campus. Many students have plans to apply and attend UTA.

Next, our group got to have lunch in the University Center along side UTA students. They got a feel for what college life is like as the enjoyed the variety offered in the dining hall. Our own Andre’ Hudson sat at the piano in the eatery and serenaded us all.

Highlighting our day was the college readiness workshop which took place in the auditorium of the Architecture Building. We had a presentation by Princeton Review's Amrita Tharappel on the SAT and ACT. We also went over our college admissions process from the high school junior year to the first day of college. The National Pan-Hellenic Council at UTA captured the students' attention with their thorough presentation on “Life on Campus."

The students were captivated and motivated by what they heard. In their own words:

“I learned that it is okay to step out of my own element. I can do whatever I want to do”
“I have to start getting more involved and improve my current GPA”
“I learned to apply for scholarships early and how to make the transition to college”
“Helped me to realize what it takes to go to college”
“I have my heart set on graduating top ten from the university of my choice and I learned skills to help accomplish that”

Special thanks to our volunteers from
